West Point Theatre

In case you missed it, we want to put a movie theatre and performing arts theatre inside the old West Point City Auditorium! Discussion at the City Council meeting last night centered around installing theatre seating upstairs (using the 230 seats that have already been donated to our cause by the Gateway Theatre in Albion). There would be movies every weekend, except for the weekends reserved for live performances by the West Point Community Theatre, who would manage and operate the theatre year-round. We have some ideas on how to do this, but we need your ideas too! Any thoughts or suggestions?

As a parent and a teacher, I think it is very important to have something located right here in West Point for our young people to do on the weekends. Many go out of town to Fremont or Norfolk to see a movie. This becomes expensive, especially with the price of gas as it is now. A movie theatre would also allow families to take in entertainment together. This would also be a great opportunity for local groups such as boy scouts, 4-H groups, High School business classes and more to have an opportunity to run the concession stand to earn money plus gain knowledge of a business. This is a great opportunity for our town and surrounding towns as well.

I have no personal appeal to the "old" city auditorium, however...why in a state of such economic trial would you want to "get rid" of such a useful building. Let plays go on there, let events be held there. Where I come from it is a good thing to have a building to have. many buildings are retiring or being demolished because there is NO interest. There is interest in this building so let the interest have it. Its not about the money or the people who want to destroy it, its about the people who care about west point!!!

HI....I too have no personal favor to the old city auditorium. But I do agree that if some people are willing to continue to use it than why not? I am not from West Point but don't see the cause in removing such a wonderful building for several reasons: 1) Brian Kreikemeier is willing to "run" this building. Who better could anyone ask for. 2) Its an excellent cause that would draw PEOPLE, not only kids from various communities. 3) It KEEPS community which I feel a lot of communities need. and 4) WHAT TOWN WOULDNT WANT TO ADD ANOTHER "BUSINESS"?
