January's Event Schedule

Well folks, January is shaping up to be a very busy month here at the West Point Community Theatre!

Theatre Membership
This is just a reminder that the bi-monthly general meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 26. We will have election of Board Members at this meeting. To be able to run for a Board position or to vote for Board members, YOU MUST BE A PAID MEMBER. Dues for the 2011 calendar year will remain the same---$10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for couples. Dues may be sent to West Point Community Theatre:

or they can be paid before the meeting that night. We encourage everyone to plan on attending the meeting to be brought up to date on the theatre's activities and plans. Become an active member of the theatre---all of you are important to our success! A reminder of the meeting will be sent out closer to the date.

Capital Campaign
We have been in the planning stages of our capital campaign for the past three months. We anticipate being able to present this to the public mid-January. Stay tuned for more details! And if you haven't caught it yet, news coverage is available here and here about our fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Nebraska DED grant we received.

Community Cinema: For Once in My Life

Join the West Point Community Theatre for "For Once in My Life," the fourth film in our new Community Cinema documentary series. The showing is FREE and open to the public. A discussion with the audience will be held immediately following the film. The event will take place on Thursday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m.

For Once in My Life is the story of a unique band of singers and musicians, and their journey to show the world the greatness – and killer soundtrack – within each of them. The 28 band members have a wide range of mental and physical disabilities, as well as musical abilities that extend into ranges of pure genius. In a cinema vérite style, the film explores the struggles and triumphs, and the healing power of music, as the band members' unique talents are nurtured to challenge the world's perceptions.

Community Cinema: Deep Down

Join the West Point Community Theatre for "Deep Down," the second film in our new Community Cinema documentary series. The showing is FREE and open to the public. A talk on energy and natural resources with audience discussion will be held immediately following the film.

Beverly May and Terry Ratliff grew up on opposite sides of a mountain ridge in eastern Kentucky, where coal is king. When a mountaintop removal coal mine encroaches on their community, the two find themselves on opposite sides of a debate that divides their community and the world — who controls, consumes, and benefits from the planet's dwindling supply of natural resources? In a small town in dire economic straits and high unemployment, the coal company’s offer to buy land and provide jobs can be hard to resist. What can a community do when it must choose between its present and its future?

Last Weekend of Charley's Aunt!

In case you missed it last weekend, you still have two more chances to catch the West Point Community Theatre's hilarious fall comedy, "Charley's Aunt."

Jack Chesney loves Kitty Verdun and Charley loves Miss Amy Spettigue. They invite the ladies to meet Charley's wealthy aunt from Brazil. Cancelling her visit at the last minute, the millionaire aunt sends the boys into cataclysmic confusion. What do they do now?
